There are all kind of sights to be seen around a railroad and south east Virginia is no exception.  Here are a few, as my friend Chris Starnes would surely call them, "Artsy Shots" from around the Tidewater, VA area.

You can "Supersize" any of the pictures below by simply clicking on your choice.

Trucks

The light and the shot just "worked" on this shot of a mixed freight pulling slowly into Collier yard.

The Line West

Looking west on "Main #1" of the NS Line between Poe, VA and Norfolk. This shot was taken at about MP-65 just west of Waverly, VA.

Traction Motor Bearing

A Hyatt bearing on the front truck of an SD40-2. Shot scanned from Fuji Provia 100 slide film and scanned in a Nikon IV ED film scanner. Best viewed in full screen mode of browser. Carolina Yard

Just East of the Portlock yard is the spur leading to Carolina Yard. It is here where trucks from the nearby Ford Plant are loaded on to autocarriers.

Builders Plaque

8 miles west of Suffolk, VA, the CSX line passes under the NS lines. This is the builders plaque from the NS bridge.

Old Ties

This pile of old ties is an indicator that the MOW crews have been busy upgrading the right of way in the Virginia District.

NS 9277
