NS 6661

Moving Eastbound down Main #1 between Windsor and Suffolk, VA, a pair of EMD SD60's moves train NS-428 at about 55 mph as it approaches the grade crossing at Myrtle, VA.

NS 6661-2

Train NS-428 is made up of a load of articulated intermodals. Here it is seen crossing the grade at Myrtle, VA heading East on Main #2. The camera settings were 1/125 @ F8. Even at that moderately high shutter speed, the trains 55mph still gives the image a reasonable representation of speed.

NS 8895

Train NS-427 approaches the west end of Portlock Yard in Chesapeake, VA with a string of articulated double stacks. Power is a pair of D9-40CW's.

NP 028

Train NP-028 heads east at 55 mph toward Suffolk Yard on Main #1 with what must have been over 100 coal cars. Note the cloud obscuring the westbound tracks. The photographer gets ready to breathe coal dust. Look at this one in full screen mode. Its a 1024 X 768 image.

NS 6080

This SD40-2 is one of a pair found sitting, idling away on a cold December afternoon. Both were sitting on a siding next to the Suffolk, VA yard waiting for the next days work.

SD40-2

A lone SD40-2 awaits the next days work with its prime mover at idle. Picture is another best viewed at 1024 X 768, full frame. Shot is on Fuji Provia 100 scanned with Nikon IV ED film scanner. Camera was a fully manual Canon F1n with a Canon 24mm F2.8 Prime Lens. Shot was 1/500 @ F9.5.

NS 9514

Train NS-428, with a pair of D9-40CW's in control stops at the signal bridge on the east end of the Portlock yard. Approximately 30 cars will be cut out before the balance of the train will continue eastward toward the Port Intermodal facility in Norfolk.
